Jetpac®

 The Oldham Seals Ltd range of Jetpac® Rubber Flexible Hoses and Expansion Bellows have been Type Approved not only to our United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence Naval Standards, but also to other highly respected and used Type Approval Classifications.  For more information see "Certification".  The fact that our Integral Fire-Retardant Hoses and Expansion Bellows have been Type Approved to these classifications has proved to the Marine Industry the benefit of using our range.  In conjunction with reliability, the other benefits are:

  • A major cost saving in expensive downtime through longer operating performance;
  • Design advantages of using the wide range of Jetpac® configurations;
  • Greater reduction in vibration levels;
  • Greater reduction in noise levels;
  • Substantial weight saving over traditional metallic pipework arrangements.

Jetpac® By-Pass Valves

  • The unit operates automatically to provide an emergency air intake.
  • The hinged door opens automatically when the pressure in the main air intake system falls to a predetermined level due to a blockage in the main air filters.
  • In normal conditions, the door is tightly closed against a seal which prevents the ingress of water, salt particles and dirt.

Jetpac® Flexible Synthetic Rubber Suction Feet

  • Supplied on international navy ships for use on fuel, ballast and bilge tanks to increase the efficiency in evacuating fluids.
  • Decrease in suction loss.
  • Minimizes damage to tank bottoms caused by metallic pipes.
  • Reduces the likelihood of contaminating empty fuel tanks when refilling ballast with sea water.

Jetpac® Rotary Flange

  • Fully integral to the hose or expansion joint to improve sealing faces with its natural rubber seal.
  • Cuts down inconvenience when pipework is misaligned, preventing unnecessary pressure on the hose itself.
  • Eliminates the need for gaskets when mating to flat faced flanges.
  • Currently supplied to all types of industries including: maritime; industrial; chemical; pump; offshore oil and defence.

Jetpac® Valve Control Cable

  • Flexible mechanical means of moving a cable for remote operation of valves on board ships.
  • Protected by Jetsil® fire retardant covering.
  • Inner operational cable grade 316 stainless steel and other operational parts either 316 stainless steerl or Naval Bronze to maximise corrosion resistance.
  • Specific demands like hooded and secure operation for specific emergency situations accommodated.
  • Mainly designed to work with ball type valves (up to 80 mm bore) or quick closing emergency valves.  Operational loads up to 90 kilos for “pull” only or up to 36/45 kilos for “push-pull” can be considered.

How the JVCC operates:

When remote operation of valves is via solid rod mechanical devices, fixed to the rigid structures of the vessel,  they require regular maintenance including lubrication which results in added through life costs.  The solid rod systems rely on moving parts ie mitre boxes and links, which are prone to malfunction.  The JVCC aims to eliminate these disadvantages by providing a “fit and forget” practical device which does not require any maintenance.

The remote operation of valves is carried out by a transmitter.  This transmitter is a handle, which is connected to the flexible cable, which in turn moves inside the protective fire covering.  The movement is transmitted to the end of the cable, the receiver.  The cable is fixed to a variety of receiver fixtures suitable to open and close the valve according to type.  The transmission of movement between transmitter and receiver is direct and precise.   The diameter of the cable is 3 mm with a conduit of 9 mm diameter, this is covered by the Jetsil® fire covering which gives a total outside diameter of 33 mm.
